Starr update 10/4/1200PDT

1100nm west of Laredo Mexico

27 45N, 133 36W

1012 hPa

SOG 7kn

Wind: N 9kn

DTG 1600nm with WP 25N,135W; 23N,136W; 21N,137W; 21N,145W; Hawaii 21N,158W rpm 1150/4gph Fuel on board: 2600usg Fuel range at 6-7kn; 3900-4500nm Fuel range at 8-9kts; 2600nm

Over the last 192 hours we have only run the gensets about 10 hours since leaving Cape Flattery. Our trusty 175 amp Leece Neville alternator is carrying the whole boat load at 27Vdc and about 95Amps. It is running the 240Vac 3 phase 4000cfm DeltaT Engine Room blower, The clothes washer and dryer, the Nespresso machine, Microwave and all the wheelhouse electronics. This guy has been doing this for over 10 years. What a champ!

We’ve slowed the engine rpm down to 1150rpm/4gph/6-7.5kn which cuts our consumption down from the 1250rpm/5gph/7-8kn.

New ETA to 25N,135W; 5/18Z

Our sea water temp is 77f and the air is also 77f.

We are waiting for the big cyclonic depression to move North from Hawaii and will take whatever time we need before turning west to the islands.

What a mess out there! Is there anyone still out there who dosen’t believe in global warming?

Sharry just pulled another loaf of homemade bread out of the oven, yumm!

We just stopped to retrieve a buoy only to find that it was part of a very long Long line with fresh bait on the hooks……uh oh, we put it back as we found it. No one shooting at us as of yet!

    Don and Sharry,

Nice to get your update. I tried looking for you on the ais ship tracking
map last night, but no luck. Turns out I wasn”t searching far enough south!

East coast of Baranof Island about 1970 and I was working at a logging camp
middle inlet of Kelp Bay. After work one day a buddy and I went out in the
camp whaler to pull a crab pot. Well, we got our directions wrong or
something, we pulled a pot that was completely full of crab, but it wasn”t
our pot. Dummies, we didn”t know one pot from another. Anyway we dumped
the crab in the boat, sexed them and then headed back to camp almost knee
deep in crab. Gave the crab to the cook at the mess hall and then to the
bunk house to have a beer and wait for supper. It was nearly dinner time
when an old fishing boat came chugging up to our dock and a mad as hell
fisherman tromped up accusing us of stealing his crab! We knew instantly
we were at fault, but being young and a little intimidated by his anger we
denied all blame and told him he must have followed the wrong boat! Our
boss came down when he heard all the noise and backed us up, but also
invited the fisherman to dine with us seeing he was at our dock.
You know the rest, the look on the fisherman”s face was priceless when the
cook came out with tray after tray of freshly steamed crab and melted
butter. Of course it was far too late by then and he enjoyed the feast
along with the rest of us, especially when our boss brought in a bottle of
    bourbon to share with him.
