Sayonara Japan, Aloha Hawaii

5 April 2011

MV Starr is departing from Osaka this afternoon at 1230, Tuesday, April 5 in Japan

We anticipate that the passage will take us 3 weeks, so our ETA will be sometime around 27 April to 1 May.

You can follow Starr on our passage by clicking on the link directly above this entry in the website.

We have a very experienced and compatible crew:

Gary and Jean Coard, CCA friends

Viktor Grabner, SYC friend

Dave Schmidt, a friend from Honolulu

Suma Yacht Club members and Kokoro from Bellport Marina saw us off from Ashiya. Our Suma Yacht Club friends, Kenichi and Mari Koi, escorted us on our way in their sailboat Wind Sailor.

SUBJECT: RE: Sayonara Japan, Aloha Hawaii

Don—Thank you and Sharry for including us on your emails. We have friends in Japan and appreciate the information. We had a brief air trip —see the grandchildren trip to Hawaii in February—but are now in Paradise Village, Banderas Bay and plan to leave here Sunday or Monday for Nuka Hiva. There are two Carlos slim boats across from us—one with a new helicopter and we are probably the smallest boat in the vicinty. We will probably register again on Pacific Seafarer’s Net next week. Would be fun if you registered on it as well as I suspect we may also get Gene Seybold and Richard Bernard on it going south from Hawaii to Polynesia and Brian & Mary Alice O’Neill on Shibui were on it from PI to Japan but just reported a weather delay. Here is the link– http://www.pangolin.co.nz/yotreps/pacseanet.php Best wishes and fair winds to both of you on the voyage. We hope to get home in early December for a couple months if you are still in Hawaii. Aloha, Mark and Dot Hazlett, sv Pua’ena, Nuevo Vallarta, MX

Don – we pick you up on SPOT – but unable to spot you at http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/
Do you not have it on while traversing the very busy Japanese waters? Stay safe and enjoy the trip – Starr has a lot of folks all over the world following you – thanks for the informative updates. – – Ric Felder
